Inviting People To LinkedIn And Getting Your Hand Slapped

Inviting People To LinkedIn And Getting Your Hand Slapped There is an issue with LinkedIn that gets some people all bent out of shape. It hasnt affected me yet because (a) I dont invite that many people to connect, and (b) if I invite them, I first ask them outside of LinkedIn (phone, e-mail, or in person) if they want to connect, get their approval, and then do it through LinkedIn. But I know some of you invite people fast and furious not that its bad to do it, but the current design of LinkedIn disciplines you if you appear to be a spammer. The issue is that its too easy to appear to be a spammer, even if you arent. On my Im on LinkedIn Now What??? blog I address the issue in two posts: I Don’t Know You (OUCH!) talks about the issue and explains things you need to know, and How To Know When You Get A LinkedIn IDK shows you screenshots to help you know if/when you get IDKd. This is an issue that all social networks face what to do with those who spam. Its ugly, though, because they will usually discipline you with no warning and with little recourse. Last year one of my favorite bloggers, Harry Joiner of MarketingHeadhunter.com, got his entire account disabled on Facebook because he simply used their tool to invite people to be his Facebook friend. So there you go, just a simple warning to keep your account intact Inviting People To LinkedIn And Getting Your Hand Slapped There is an issue with LinkedIn that gets some people all bent out of shape. Why Dubai Should Be Your Next Vacation

Why Dubai Should Be Your Next Vacation Just a quick scroll of Instagram will tell you that Dubai is one of THE hottest destinations right now! It appears every other blogger and Insta-star is jetting off for a sun-drenched holiday in Dubai, and who could blame them? Its a party paradise, but theres more to Dubai than just shopping, parties and pools After a long, hard year, it’s more than tempting to spend your break sprawled on a sun lounger, but this corner of the world is packed full of adrenaline-charged activities. There are outdoor adventures to be had in the sand, sea and snow (yes, snow!) and all are within a short taxi ride of each other. If what you’re after is a more active holiday so you come home totally refreshed and full of energy having experienced something new and different â€" then Dubai is the place for you. Sandboarding Beyond the city’s skyscrapers are vast desert dunes. Stunt riders head out to Big Red, an area packed with thousands of sandy mounds.   There you can watch pro quadbikers, 44 drivers and sandboarders launching themselves from peaks and ledges.   If you fancy a go yourself, there are various  adventure companies  that will drive you to suitably high dunes, strap you to a board and send you hurtling down the slopes. It doesnt hurt if you fall into the soft sands, but be prepared to get a workout climbing back up the sandy hills. After the session, be sure to hang around to watch the unbeatable desert sunset, where bright pinks, oranges, yellows and mauves combine, as gazelles dart off into the horizon. Tennis If tennis is your thing then you can’t get better than Dubai, with luxury hotels such as the  Jumeirah and Westin Beach specializing in tailor-made tennis holidays suitable for all ages and abilities.   Whether you’re a beginner or looking to enhance your game, tennis is a great way to get the blood pumping through your veins.   Both hotels have fantastic tennis facilities, where you’ll meet professional coaches who will put you through your paces.     After spending your day burning off those calories and having fun doing it, you can reward yourself with exquisite fine dining and a treatment or two at the on-site spa. Skiing and snowboarding Right in the centre of Dubai there’s a huge refrigerator, containing one of the largest man-made ski slopes on earth. Inside Ski Dubai, you’ll find 6000 tons of powdery snow and a 400-metre slope. With temperatures between -2 °C and -9 °C, you’ll think you’re in the Swiss Alps rather than a scorching desert. It’s not somewhere to try speed skiing, but it’s ideal for beginners or to hone your technique. Other snow-based activities include riding an indoor sub-zero zip line and a meeting a small penguin colony. Wakeboarding Zooming across the water at speeds of 40mph, with the warm air in your face, wakeboarding gives you the same rush as snowboarding without the pain of falling off! In Dubai’s Jebel Ali area, daredevils will find the perfect secluded spot, with optimum conditions for this sport. Wakeboarding is best done in calm conditions when the water is glassy and still. Just offshore from the Jebel Ali Golf Resort Spa, the crest of the nearby Palm Jebel Ali creates a tranquil lagoon where visitors can slice through the crystal blue water, while holding onto a cable attached to a 150 break horse power boat. Whether you are a beginner, learning to do your first jump or can expertly land 360s and backflips, the adrenaline factor never wears off. Aquaventure Waterpark Whizz down 1.6m of rapids, catapult yourself past a shark tank at 60mph or stand on a 75ft high trapdoor that opens under your feet and sends you hurtling through a double looped flume â€" just another day at Aquaventure at Atlantis, The Palm. Rides shoot out from ancient Middle Eastern themed buildings and the views from the waterpark, over the Palm Jumeirah are of the calm turquoise sea with the city’s skyscrapers as a backdrop.   It’s nothing short of stunning.   Other activities on site include meeting sea lions, swimming with dolphins and the longest zip-line circuit in the Middle East. The Three Biggest Career Mistakes - Classy Career Girl

The Three Biggest Career Mistakes One day you’ll realize that it’s time to move on and that you want to completely change your career. This is a big leap out of your comfort zone â€" good for you!  But it’s not all rosy in career makeover land,  so let me save you some trouble. There are various challenges, setbacks, unexpected surprises and bumps along the way…  Don’t worry, they happen to the best of us â€" but you can avoid them. There are three mistakes you’re probably making, will make, or haven’t even thought about it. Enjoy the ride! Here are the 3 biggest career mistakes you should know about: 1. Not Knowing Where You Want to Go You’ve had it with your job; and here’s where the first of the three mistakes crops up to trip you. You want something different, but do you know  exactly  what you want? Most women break from their jobs to find nowhere to go, or worse yet, they make a bad choice in choosing their next career. Maybe you’re a nurse and have decided nursing doesn’t do it for you anymore; then being a home-care assistant would be the right solution for you, right? Well… maybe. The reasons you wanted  a change to begin with, could also have you longing for Fridays with the new one. The Fix: Rather than letting your mind punk you, get your career change right the first time by doing some solid outlining. Jot down what you truly enjoy about your work. Even if you’re looking to change your career, there are still some things that drew you to your former position originally and certain things about you that compliment it. Do you like helping others? Do you like the structure? Great. Now, what else do you want from a job? Would you prefer a flexible schedule? How about more time at home? Perfect. Now you can narrow down what jobs would suit these needs without falling into the same inflexible, at-work-too-much hole that drove you away in the first place. 2. Not Having a Roadmap Mistake number two.  Let’s say you jump clear over the first of the three mistakes and set your sights on a job that was practically  built  for you. Great! …Now what? Where do you even begin? If you want to run your shop in private consulting (hey, why wouldn’t you?), and you have the skills, that’s fantastic, but no one is going to let you take the position without a business degree, professional certification, previous experience, and a strong network. For that matter, getting the position at your dream company will be impossible if they don’t know who you are. The Fix: Now it’s time to lay the groundwork and chart out your course. Pull out the pen and paper again, and start reverse-engineering your career change. Want to be your own boss in the field of consulting, right?  How do you get there? Perhaps the first thing is to get in contact with the higher-ups of this. How do you get in contact with them? Through LinkedIn. Do you have a profile? Build one. Will they pay attention to you? No, so build a popular following and more connections before contacting them. Do you have the qualifications they’re looking for? No, so back to school. Do you have the experience they need? No, so look for a smaller position as a manager in a similar field.   Or,  work pro-bono, go to a  networking event or start a blog. By having this roadmap in place, you can follow each individual step to take you to your goal â€" and it’s encouraging to look at along the way! 3. Not Reaching Out to Others You might have guessed from the last solution that I’m in favor of networking â€" and trust me, you have to be. If you have your roadmap and your completely outlined dream job, you could run into mistake number three like a truck into a brick wall. If you’re introverted like me, or just extremely busy, it’s easy to isolate yourself and forget to reach out to others. This leaves all your efforts high and dry, because no matter how experienced you are, how can you get that ideal position if no one knows you, recommends you, or introduces you to a new opportunity? Better yet, reaching out to others may mean sometimes asking for help working out your goals and roadmap from mistakes #1 and #2 above. Meeting new people, talking through your dilemmas or even seeking professional help are all important elements of your success. The Fix: It can be hard to break from your comfort zone, but take a deep breath (and get some comfort food) and get to work. By taking a few minutes every day to engage on social media with people in your desired field, or just inspirational people in general, you can make connections that will springboard you to greater opportunities. Takeaway: Career Change is as Easy as You Make It. Related Post:  What Losing Weight After 40 and Your Career Change Have in Common

How Has the GDPR Changed Document Storage

How Has the GDPR Changed Document Storage The General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR) came into force in May 2018, and it has had a huge influence across businesses in almost every industry. The regulation was brought in by the EU to provide businesses with clarity over their surrounding data protection, and providing individuals with greater control over their data. What this means for businesses in practice is that changes were necessary in the way that they store documents and other data that contains personal information. It is essential that your business is compliant with the GDPR, as failing to do so can lead to you being fined very heavily. To help you avoid this situation, we take a look at exactly how the GDPR has changed document storage, and what you need to do to remain compliant. It’s about the individual Clearly, the major and most significant change that the GDPR is looking to instigate is to put the rights to personal data and private information back in the hands of the individual, and away from businesses. If a company handles, stores, and processes the kinds of personal data that make it possible to identify someone, that person is given far more rights over that data that they had before. The kind of data involved includes everything from banking details to their IP address. One major change is that an individual now has the right to know which parts of their data are being stored, processed, and used â€" alongside how that data is being used. You may remember the flood of annoying (and possibly even illegal) emails in your inbox from companies wanting to update their policies and ensuring that they still had the right to use your data. New rights However, there are a number of other rights that individuals are granted, rather than just knowledge over their data. For example, if you know that a company is currently using your data you can request that data modified or deleted at any time, and the company must respond and take action to process your request. “You can also ask for your data not to be used in a certain way â€" for example, to allow you to stop receiving marketing emails from an organization. Companies, therefore, need to have the capability within their system to make modifications and changes to data, as well as deleting it permanently, if requested. Companies that do not have the ability to do this are technically in breach of the GDPR.“ Images-On-Line. How this affects businesses The changes brought in by the GDPR have meant that many businesses have had to make significant changes to how they operate and the systems that they use on a day-to-day basis. A key example of this is that as individuals now have the right to request which details of theirs that a company has stored, it is essential that a business has a system in place that allows for this sort of information to be recalled very quickly. Under the GDPR, businesses are required to be able to delete or modify this data without ‘undue delay’. It should also be pointed out that these regulations mean that you need to have a much closer understanding over the data that is owned by your business, but that that is actually held by a different business. For example, you may have a software provider or a cloud server that is managed by another business. If your business suffers a data breach then you need to have the capability to report the breach to anyone who has been affected within 72 hours. Managing physical documents It is a mistake to think about the impact of the GDPR only in terms of the digital data that you store. While there has been an emphasis on data stored in computer systems, the regulations do cover all forms of data including physical documentation. If your business still holds a large number of paper copies of documents, then you need to think very carefully about your responsibilities. Many businesses are actually now preferring the simplicity of an entirely digital system to avoid having to deal with this issue. As it is now possible to have your physical documents professionally scanned either at your premises by a specialist firm, or in a secure facility the whole process can be simple and effective. Job Seeking is like a childrens book Are You My Mother

Job Seeking is like a childrens book “Are You My Mother” Job Search is like a Childrens Book Are You My Mother? A great book authored in 1960 is a perfect analogy to the need to network to find your next job. In case you have not read it, here is a synopsis: Are You My Mother? is the story about a hatchling bird. His mother, thinking her egg will stay in her nest where she left it, leaves her egg alone and flies off to find food. The baby chick hatches. He does not understand where his mother is so he goes to look for her. In his search, he asks a kitten, a hen, a dog, and a cow if they are his mother. They each say, No. Then he sees an old car, which cannot be his mother for sure. In desperation, the hatchling calls out to a boat and a plane, and at last, convinced he has found his mother, he climbs onto the teeth of an enormous steam shovel. A loud SNORT belches from its exhaust stack, prompting the bird to utter the immortal line, You are not my mother! You are a SNORT!”I want my mother! he shouts. At this climactic moment, his fate is suddenly reversed. The shovel drops him back in his nest just as his mother is returning home. The two are united, much to their delight, and the baby bird tells his mother about the adventure he had looking for her. What does this children’s book have to do with your job search? According to Berry Zimmerman, CEO of BizEnrich and creator of Gifted Referrals, “you are the bird and the SNORT is a very valuable referral source. The question for your referral sources is, “Who do you know that can take me to my next job, hiring manager, or company?”” Here are three things for you to do right now to find your mother, I mean, next career move. Step 1: Get out from behind your computer (your nest) and meet people. Network, connect, and build relationships. Get out there and meet helpful, professional people! Naturally, aim for people working in a similar field, either in your target industry or in your target function like sales, operations, or finance. Find events through your local Business Journal, online or in print, and on LinkedIn. Step 2: Communicate your career goal. Zimmerman says “the bird’s goal was clear, to find his mother. Create a clear, concise and repeatable message about your goal.” A good example: “I’m seeking a financial analysis position in Chicago, preferably with a manufacturing company.” Or “I’m seeking a marketing coordinator position in a large technology corporation here in Seattle.” Step 3: Track your network and stay connected with them for years and years. If you seek help once then disappear it’s called U-S-I-N-G. So write everything down at events, put the contacts in your PC, and get in the habit of keeping in touch. Your mother is out there. Engage referral sources to find her. Be persistent, thoughtful, considerate, and clear. The results will follow. Say, “Thank you” for referrals, even if they don’t result in a job. Remember, there are companies out there who want to hire you and need your skills. You just need to find each other. Write back in the comments section below with techniques you have used to find employment opportunities in your job seeking. We want to hear from you!

Writing a Theatre Resume For Entry Level Positions

Writing a Theatre Resume For Entry Level PositionsWriting a theatre resume for entry level positions is something that most candidates face. There are many opportunities available to the interested and creative candidate that is looking to break into the field. However, before you go too far on your dreams of a career in the theatre industry, make sure you prepare a theatre resume for entry level positions.Theater is a popular way for people to entertain others, and they have a lot of talented actors that are always changing and evolving. The number of talented performers is constantly increasing. People who enjoy performing can earn their living performing in various parts of the world. A theater resume for entry level positions will be a great way to get an audition. While there are a lot of jobs to fill, there are some people who perform best in specific types of roles. Those who enjoy doing improv or comedy plays may be a good fit for a supporting role. As the director of the play directs, the actor will be the one creating the story, acting out scenes and even directing the show. In an off-Broadway production, the actress may be the star, and the main character, if written well, will be the one in control of the entire show. Other roles include musical theatre characters, such as a jigaboo. The lead character is the one directing the show and choreographing the set and costume. Other work includes a role in one of the four main plays that are run on a regular basis. Musicals that are based on fairy tales will be a challenge for those who enjoy performing comedy, but those who enjoy a different type of comedy, such as musical theatre, will be better suited for roles in these types of shows. One of the most difficult roles is the main role in a musical, where the actor must step into a different character every night. Most movies or TV shows require a main role in order to be successful. One example of this is the lead role in a film, which is usually the most well known part of the film. Other roles include main characters in comedies, dramas, action movies, musicals and even documentaries. These roles usually require a high degree of talent and skill, and the actor will be required to be in charge of a large budget, not to mention the camera and lighting systems.Entering a new audience or location for the first time can be a difficult feat for many actors. But, most actors who do well in supporting roles, but do not enjoy being the main character, find that the act takes some getting used to. For these actors, it is important to note that the act may be part of the resume, as the Actors Guild will have guidelines about what positions should be in which roles. Some actors like the stage more than other actors, and it can be challenging to transition into another part. For example, a leading male role can sometimes be more comfortable for a woman than for a man. Many actors feel that if they are truly a part of the movie or TV show, they w ill be able to accept the change and perform at the highest level they are capable of.In any event, writing a theatre resume for entry level positions will help a student get an audition for the kind of role that he or she may be able to perform in the future. By preparing a theatre resume for entry level positions, candidates will be prepared for a potential future audition. Just keep in mind that it takes time and patience to get on the right path.
